For the Cake*<\/strong><\/mark><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

1 tablespoon poppy seeds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1 \u00bd cups all-purpose flour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00bc teaspoon salt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1 \u00bd teaspoons baking powder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00bd cup unsalted butter, at room temperature<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1 cup sugar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u2153 cup fresh orange juice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

2 large eggs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Zest of 1 orange<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00bd cup plain yogurt or buttermilk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1 teaspoon vanilla extract<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the Citrus Sauce*<\/em><\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  • \u00bd cup fresh orange juice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • \u00bd cup sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Instructions*<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    To Make the Cake*<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Preheat your oven to 350\u00b0F (180\u00b0C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, poppy seeds, baking powder, and salt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Stir in the orange zest and vanilla extract. Mix in the orange juice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Alternately add the flour mixture and the yogurt to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      To Make the Citrus Sauce*<\/mark><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      1. In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, lemon juice, and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth, then add it to the juice mixture. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon zest and butter until smooth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Let the sauce cool slightly before drizzling it over the cake.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
