Crispy Cheesy Potato Bake

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and grated (about 4–5 cups)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (or melted butter for a richer flavor)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite blend)
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Squeeze out excess moisture from the grated potatoes using a clean towel or cheesecloth. This helps achieve a crispy texture.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes with olive oil (or melted butter), salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
  4. Grease a baking dish or ovenproof skillet with a bit of oil, then press the potato mixture evenly into the bottom to form a crust.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the bottom is golden and crisp.
  6. Remove from the oven, sprinkle the cheese evenly on top, and return to the oven for another 5–10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
