Ingredients
– 4 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/3 cup granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
– 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup chocolate chips
– 1 egg (for egg wash)
– 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Preparation
- Prepare the Dough:
– In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
– Add the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until well combined.
– Gradually add the remaining flour, about 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough comes together and is slightly sticky. - Knead the Dough:
– Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
– Add the chocolate chips and knead until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. - First Rise:
– Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size. - Shape the Buns:
– Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
– Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
– Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart. - Second Rise:
– Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for about 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size. - Preheat the Oven:
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). - Egg Wash:
– In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make the egg wash.
– Brush the tops of the risen buns with the egg wash. - Bake the Buns:
– Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. - Cool and Serve:
– Allow the buns to cool on a wire rack.
– Serve warm or at room temperature.
Enjoy!
