For the Crust*
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Caramel Filling*
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans
★Instructions
Preheat the Oven* Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
Make the Crust*
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the flour and mix until combined.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Caramel Filling*
- In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, heavy cream, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the caramel thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans.
- Assemble and Bake*
- Pour the caramel filling over the partially baked crust, spreading it evenly.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and slightly set.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
