Caramel pieces with walnuts

★Ingredients

For the Crust*

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Caramel Filling*

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

★Instructions

Preheat the Oven* Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

Make the Crust*

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually add the flour and mix until combined.
  • Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Caramel Filling*
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, heavy cream, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the caramel thickens slightly.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans.
  • Assemble and Bake*
  • Pour the caramel filling over the partially baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and slightly set.
  • Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
