★Ingredients
- Fresh grape leaves (about 30)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh herbs (parsley, dill, mint)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: Chopped nuts or raisins
★Method
- Prepare the Grape Leaves*
- For jarred leaves: Rinse under cold water.
- For fresh leaves: Blanch in boiling water, then drain.
- Make the Filling*
- Combine rice, onions, garlic, herbs, olive oil, and lemon juice.
- Season with salt and pepper. Add nuts or raisins if desired.
- Assemble the Grape Leaves*
- Lay a grape leaf shiny side down, stem towards you. Cut off the stem.
- Place filling near the stem end, fold in sides, and roll tightly.
- Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
- Cook the Stuffed Grape Leaves*
- Arrange in a pot in tight layers.
- Add water to cover, lemon juice, and a drizzle of olive oil.
- Place a plate on top to keep submerged. Simmer for 40-50 minutes until tender.
